Experiencing a Custom Home Cinema by Bethesda Systems

A home theater with chaise lounges, a large screen displaying snow capped mountains, and a Sony projector.

Aligning Aesthetics and Engineering to Enter Into Another World

Movies are undeniably an art form. And, like any art form, we want to pay tribute to those who created them by experiencing them as they intended. While some scenes are completed in one or two shots, others may take several hundred, painstakingly adjusting and readjusting the lighting, lines, and characters’ actions, looking for that “ah-ha” moment.

Something this extraordinary deserves a special place in our homes. That’s where Bethesda Systems and the custom home cinema approach comes in.

Here, we’ll explore the makings of a home theater that pays tribute to something greater than ourselves—the power of movies to evoke heartfelt emotions, awareness, and acceptance as we encounter what it’s like to walk in another’s shoes and live in another place and time.

Opening the Doors

In some instances, anticipation can be greater than the event it foretold. Think of that first date and all the potential it holds. For some, it transformed into a marriage; for others, an early cab ride home.

When you get ready to watch a movie, opening the doors to your home theater should set the stage, creating feelings of excitement that remain as the first credits roll. What type of design would fill you with this much anticipation? Do you want to open the doors to a theater filled with old-school charm? Maybe the Art Deco era draws you in, or the modernist approach.

Your chosen aesthetics carry significant weight in all the details that go into your custom home theater, from acoustic paneling to lighting, materials, and seating. It’s here we begin.

The Beginning

When integrated with home automation, your home theater reacts with no effort on your part, just like when you go to the cinema in town. You press an icon on a touchscreen, and the lights dim as the movie appears, the fiber optic ceiling fades to twinkling stars, and the blackout shades lower. The sound seems to come from everywhere and nowhere, surrounding you in audio so real you look to find its source.

Mid-Stream

When someone wants to get up for a break or to grab a snack, you press the ‘Intermission’ button, and a trail of LED strip lights illuminate the walkways and activate a light in the hallway. If someone rings the doorbell, the security camera sends you a live video, enabling you to turn on the entryway lights and unlock the door from the touchscreen or let them know it’s a bad time to visit through the two-way intercom.

The End

As the final credits roll, the wall sconces and recessed lighting brighten, and your custom ergonomically designed recliners return to upright positions. Because the images and audio were so real, you entered the storyline, cast adrift in an ancient sea or trudging through towering dunes.

Returning from this type of experience takes a while. Slowly, you return to your home theater and the breathtaking aesthetics surrounding you.
